What we do:

Ice Cold Mountain is a ski resort in Denver, Colorado.  This ski resort offers a variety of ski slopes that challenge all ski levels. Everything from trails challenging the best of skiers on our extreme terrain and high alpine adventure terrain to beginner slopes that provide fun for the whole family, Ice Cold Mountain provides them all. After a long day of skiing or snowboarding, Ice Cold Mountain also provides a luxury of other activities such as snow tubing, spa, nightlife, shopping, and special events. Logo and usage:

This logo is to represent the Ice Cold Mountain's brand and ski resort reputation. The logo and the ski resort go hand in hand. The logo features a mountain just like the mountain at the resort, sturdy with many paths to be explored. Ski poles were included in the logo to show the importance and main activities of the resort, skiing. You also must have snow to go skiing so three snowflakes float above the mountain to represent the winter sport and the snow that makes it all happen.

This logo is never to be altered in size whether bigger or smaller. The size here is how the logo should always be represented. Altering the logo in size obstructs the image of the logo and if done the logo no longer represents Ice Cold Mountain.

The logo was made to be easily legible keeping consistency in its shape. This logo is to never be altered in any way to obstruct the shape of the logo.

 

The logo was made to represent the winter season and the fun sport that goes along with it, skiing.  The colors of the original logo should never be altered due to this symbolism. If altered then the logo no longer in the representation of the Ice Cold Mountain brand.

Website and Wireframe

The layout of Ice Cold Mountain's main webpage was very important to the brand so customers can have an easy time navigating their homepage to help them know all about Ice Cold Mountain and what they have to offer. Incorporating the logo at the top helps individuals identify Ice Cold Mountain's homepage. The header also includes the weather at Ice Cold Mountain which is important for the consumer to know since in order to plan their trip along with knowing the snow conditions before they head off for their ski adventure. The navigation bar has a list of all the options of Ice Cold Mountain and helps individuals navigate to each page with ease. A video was included since people usually like visual images more than just text. This video includes information about the ski resort as well as the different trails the mountain provides. More pictures were included underneath the video next to a paragraph about Ice Cold Mountain in order for individuals to gain more information. A calendar and booking information included on the homepage since this makes it easier for consumers to book their trips and have fewer clicks to do so.  More pictures and information is provided at the bottom such as a live mountain cam so people can look up the mountain, photo gallery for others to share their experiences, and a map of the trails. Each was included to provide more information about the mountain and help customers want to book their trip right then and there.

Color set:

This color template was chosen for the different cooler tones of blues that represent cooler temperatures of winter and ice/snow that go along with winter. Since Ice Cold Mountain is a ski resort, ice and winter are primary words that describe this company and are represented in this color palette. This color palette, in particular, was picked due to the contrast between the dark and light blue. The contrast these two colors create gives off a chilly feel of winter which in the end represents the Ice Cold Mountain brand, including logo and website.

Font Set:

The font used was PT Sans which is a font that is not too rigid but still easily legible. The letters run smoothly together like a skiers trip down the mountain. The letters are still rigid enough, however, to represent the hard frozen reality of winter and the ice and snow that goes along with it. This font was used for the logo and the website to create continuity and in order to keep the same font for the whole brand.

The site map shows the important information to be included in the design of Ice Cold Mountain's webpage. Each listed item is essential to the company's main objectives and what they provide to their customers. The homepage, being the most important page, provides the main topics of the rest of the website such as the main headings along with additional eye-catching, important information to help customers understand this brand and what they have to offer. The Mountain is an important tab and listed second so customers can explore the different ski trails and activities.  Also, avid skiers can watch the mountain cam to check out the mountain conditions so they can plan their next trip and know how to prepare themselves if their trip is already booked. Lodging, Dining, and Events were added to help individuals be able to see their options when staying overnight at the ski resort or planning a long day adventure. All in all these labs help individuals when booking their trip.

------Sources of Inspiration for logo-----

Many ski resorts utilize a mountain as one of their key images for their brand. The logo off to the right utilizes a mountain in a way that did not overpower the design. Since a mountain is the main importance of the Ice Cold Mountain brand, they took this logo's idea of a mountain and established a banner at the base but kept the mountain as the main focus.

Incorporating skiing into the Ice Cold Mountain logo is important since this the main activity at any ski resort. The logo off to the right incorporates ski poles into their logo that separated the mountain and their company name. Taking this idea, Ice Cold Mountain's logo has the ski poles as the banner in order to accomplish this same result.

​

The next design used arrows that provided a border to the top of their design. Taking this concept, Ice Cold Mountain's logo has three snowflakes at the top of the mountain that provides a top border feel along with taking this opportunity to incorporate a winter feel to the logo.

When designing the webpage for Ice Cold Mountain two main sources inspired different aspects during the creative process. The first Webpage inspired the idea to have photos for customers to flip through allowing them to explore the mountain and gain more information. This will help individuals get to know Ice Cold Mountain and see all the different trails and get to see other activities besides just skiing.

 

The second webpage inspired the source of buying tickets. The layout allows individuals to have an easier time when planning their ski trip by providing a calendar along with being able to click on ticket/packet deals or just adding individual tickets with the add/subtract buttons. This helps customers pick their deals faster as well and provides convenience being on the homepage.

Both these sources have something in common that provided one extra item that was important to include in Ice Cold Mountain's web design. This key information is the weather in the top header when people are first scanning the page.  The weather is important due to the impact it has on snow quality and ski conditions.  This helps customers understand how to prepare for their ski trip and what kind of conditions they should expect when on the mountain that day.
