Thomcy's Cafe

Looking for coffee shops all over the Western Pennsylvania area, there is one tucked right on Slippery Rock’s main street. Thomcy’s Café seems like a cute place to venture.

Location: Thomcy’s Café was easy to follow and find on Google Maps. This little café is located right off to the side of the major red light in the middle of Slippery Rock University town. It is the last shop in the building complex, making it the end shop right next to the red light. Parking is not a problem since there is parallel parking on the main road or a parking lot directly behind the building that Thomcy’s Café resides.

Rating: 5/5 …adequate parking that was accessible and easy

Trick/Tip: If you do not like parallel parking then I suggest parking in the lot behind the building complex. Entrance location in located across from the fire station…you’re welcome

Ambience:

Light: The café was a little dimmer than most. The front widows gave off most of the light while ceiling hanging lights gave off the rest in the seating area. The counter area was more illuminated than the seating area.

Rating: 4/5 …due to a dimmer feel but still enough that did not make you feel blind or uncomfortable

Trick/Tip: Sit more towards the windows or the back near the counter for the lightest experience. Or if you are Dr. Keppel sit towards the middle…you’re welcome

Seating: The wooden tables around the room were all the same size and had their were the same number of wooden chairs around each one. No tables outside but definitely an adequate number of ones inside for the space that was provided.

Rating: 3/5 …due to not a diverse selection of chairs and tables but still a decent amount for the room

Trick/Tip: When you walk in just pick a table to sit at. You do not have to wait for anybody to place you…you’re welcome

Sound: The only sound that you heard was from the customers talking, the staff talking, and the faint sound of drinks being made in the back. Even the talking was mostly muffled so you really couldn’t hear what people around you were saying. No music was playing though.

Rating: 3/5 …due to no music. Even though you really couldn’t hear people’s conversations it would be nice to still have music playing in the back to help muffle people's conversations.

Trick/Tip: Maybe not a good place for a private conversation but still a great place to hang out with three friends…because there are only 4 chairs per table…you’re welcome

Inviting: The atmosphere was very chill. You seat yourself and then the waitress/waiter comes to get your order. The staff was very friendly and were happily talking to one another as well.

Rating: 5/5 …due to a chill atmosphere

Trick/Tip: If you want to meet for a project with a group or get coffee with a friend then this is a great place to go since you can hang for a few hours.

Drink/Food: They did not have a very diverse coffee selection. Mostly just regular in the coffee pot or flavored lattes. The latte flavors were plentiful though. They had many food selections that included breakfast and lunch items. Definitely more a food place than coffee.

Rating: 3/5 …due to minimum coffee choices but still diverse in latte flavor options. Many food choices.

Trick/Tip: Great place for a morning breakfast run. Not a morning coffee run…you’re welcome

Overall, I rate this coffee shop 3/5. Although this place was very chill and inviting, it was more a dinner/restaurant than coffee shop.
